RIP Ari Up

I was stucked into some network tests for whole week, and cannot have time to read news, etc.
When I have the time, I read the news below.Nothing to say more, just her songs..

"John and Nora have asked us to let everyone know that Nora's daughter Arianna (aka Ari-Up) died today (Wednesday, October 20th) after a serious illness. She will be sadly missed.
Everyone at JohnLydon.com and PiLofficial.Com would like to pass on their heartfelt condolences to John , Nora and family.
Rest in Peace."

First one is from the kinda collective, New Age Steppers, which she was a member of. The second one from her punk days. And, the last one is one of her latest works with Lee Perry and Dubblestandart.

Getting to Sirius

For the last few months, I've no time to follow the music scene and because of my job I've ignored most of the mails I've got. Today, while reviewing my mail box, I saw the mail from Join the Dots and then I listened to the Duffstep's EPs, aaand the result is more curses to my job. Anyway, let's move to the EPs.
Now, we have 2 EPs from Duffstep, first one is a free release from Join The Dots, Back For More EP. First song is the bootleg remix for Al Johnson & Jean Carne's Back For More and the second one is again a bootleg dub out remix for Barry White's Playing Your Game, Baby.
Duffstep - Back For More (Free Music - Check Description) by JoinTheDots
Duffstep - Playing Your Game (Free Music - Check Description) by JoinTheDots
Getting To Sirius Album Sampler EP is the main reason for this post.Take a look at what Mr. Duffy done under the pseudonym Duff Disco and the EP that I mentioned above, add on Blockhead's, Fly Lo's, Fingathing's, Mount Kimbie's and Von D's sound, slightly reduce the beat on the soulfull side, and when you add the techy feeling with synths and mid/heavy weighted bass to those you will understand how I felt when I first listened to this EP.
The EP is consisting of three songs and it is quite good. Although my favorite is My Kiss, and Close Your Eyes, Free is at least as good as them.

Turntablism vs. Dubstep

I remember an old boring discussion about dubstep & turntablism at dubstepforum.
Many purists said "noooo, there is no room for turntablism in dubstep, etc etc" at that time.
Now, we got two late answers for those purists; first a short video from Dubspot's DJ Shiftee that is prepeared for Native Instruments, and a nearly 30 mins mix from X-Kutz.
The answer is obvious; everything fits with dubstep if it's nicely done.

Shaka, Channel 1, Aba Shanti-I and also the Dubwise festival, all in two days ...
Now watch it and decide for yourself..

Btw, this mix will be followed by a dub selection#3 as soon as I record it.

Blawan - Fram

Blawan - Fram (Video Edit) from voconut on Vimeo.

Y’all know Blawan’s marvelous track from Hessle Audio, Fram. Now, this highly garage influenced, junglesque techy, dark and cold floor smasher (I know I am not good at describing, but you got the point) has a video. Directed by UO, from our Voconut Productions crew. I’m planning to say “hope you like it”, but that phrase is not needed. I know, you ‘ll like it.

Tektosag Records

Tektosag Records (sister label of Voconut Records) released it’s first digital releases. First one is Breakbit’s "LFO Sci".If youare into acid & idm sounds, yes yes this one is definetly for you. Breakbit’s science’ll absorb you from the first beat, it’s inevitable.

The second release is from Obookubo. For all these years we waited for some releases from him and finally he released something. You know him from his previous EPs from Mos-Hi Records, jungle at it’s best.

You should’ve already seen on the right side bar I put the juno link for streaming and buying this releases, go grab them.

Dubstepe Nooldu? Nooldu? #6 part 1

--6blocc from LA released fourth record in the I dub series. He hails us with his enormous hip-hop and dancehall remixes. A side starts with the Audio Two classic, Top Bill and continues with his mediocre remix for Cypress Hill's Kill A Man. Follow The Leader (Eric B & Rakim) remix is the best of the record with its successful mixing of brilliant bass arrangement with 80’s hip-hop beat. The last song on the B side is the 6blocc version of Baby Cham’s well known song Ghetto Story.
--When I first heard that Hessle Audio will release a new producer’s (Blawan) record, I kept my expectations low. What I mean by low is, it ‘ll be enough for me to hear some mediocre techy dubstep songs having the similar groove as Ramadanman, Pangaea, buuuut, believe me this is not like that. The intense sub-bass fitted on a subtle 2-step beat is enough to spin my head, as you can see I even do not mention the well managed production. Good record, add this to your monthly/weekly purchase list.
--Subscape’s first record, Transaction, that also have been released from Dub Police, have become a savior for me during the parties, when I feel like I’m losing control of the crowd I put this record and everyone goes nuts, now he released a new savior for us, result ; I liked it a lot, and saved a place for this plate near my other saviors.
Hardcore Members excites me with its saw-like, floating bass, and on the flipside Midnight continues the excitement with it’s kind of a house sound with a pinch of a skanky vibe that is done by a reggae lover dubstephead (I mean this does not consist of a reggae sound but you can feel the vibe).
--Dubstep’s rising star Trolley Snatcha released his second vinyl from Dub Police. On the A side, there’s Circle K which is like a thug, wandering around searching for trouble, with its every single beat. On the flip there’s We Rock The Forest with a saw-like bass on a good skank. With this skank, he’s hailing the dubheads, I’m with him at that point. Good record.
--I was curious what it’s going to be like when I first saw on Swamp81’s site that next release will be Addision Groove which is sub-conscious of Headhunter. If I know the result is going to be the child of dubstep and ghetto house, I think I would have gone mad while waiting for its release, thank god I don’t know that. With its 808 beats and continuously flowing bass, Headhunter did a neat job in here, even if you don’t understand what I mean by now, I have to say this, this 12” is one of the best of half of the year’s released records, I recommend this to you all. I think I’m going to add this to my best of this year list. Footcrap footcrap footcrap ffffffootcrap.
--Deep Medi started to release all his past catalog as a series of CDs. These songs were only released on wax and the mp3’s that are found on the internet are simply the rips from vinyl. This CD series is not for me as I have most of their releases but if you don’t have them, go and grab it.
--I can criticize every producer as “same sound, even do not change the bass tricks or beats,… etc. etc.” But when it comes to The Others I cannot say any of this. Even if they use the same bass sound and beat I can find something that knocks me down. This EP is in the same direction.
On the first record Gravity and Puppetwalk has the well-known The Others floor basher sound, but on the second record here comes the surprises, Karma, long awaited for a release, sounds like the reggae/dubwise 2-steps that we used to hear in the early times of dubstep evolution, I should add there’s a pinch of dub techno effect on this song. On the flip, there’s also a long-awaited one, Dot 2 Dot. With its hard bass line, it feels like you are banging your head to the wall various time in different angles.

--No Hats No Hoods presented us the record containing the 3 remix of Nightmare that Badness done with Skepta and Lil Nasty. First remix is from Mensah from HENCH crew, tbh I liked this more than the original with its deep bass and synths coming down as a ton of weight on you. Bassboy’s bass line fix is OK.Last song on this plate is the remix done by Cotti and Coki which puts the song far far deeper and darker from the original with the bass tricks and metallic synths. Good record, grab it.
--Basshead Music made the correct description fort Basnectar's record, I have nothing to add more: “Side A is an 808-driven bass line workout; side AA is a dance floor stomper with vocals by underground hip-hop star Zumbi (Zion I). You've got to hear this release! It sounds like DnB and Dubstep made love and produced a Hip Hop baby.”
--You dive into the deep ocean, you’ll reach the surface soon but you’re still down there and the intensity of the silence of the sea covered all over. These are the things I felt when I first listen Paint, Straw & Bubbles due to the intense bass assault. With its more wonky synths, Zomby’s remix is simply the depiction of meeting the waves when you reach the surface. Maze is the song where Actress hails the industrial scene with the darkness inside. And also the synths memorize me the early electronic music. Such a good record, had to buy.
--We are familiar with Brother Culture’s beloved voice from his previous works with Mungo’s Hi-Fi. And, now he helped Jellybass on his song, No Love. On the A side there lies dub/reggae with a pinch of dubstep, Original Mix and Caper Remix. On the B side, Jazzsteppa put the beat and bass into our attention to form the hard and dark sound of Jazzsteppa that we always love to hear.DJ Love’s remix follows the footsteps of On-U Sound, I liked what he does with the song.
--Digital Soundboy never releases a bad record. I was eagerly waiting for a release till the day I listened to Skream remix for Donaeo's wonderful track on 1xtra.With Burning Up, Skream started to produce 145-150 bpm junglesques and in here Skream’s remix for Riot Music is in the same format.I still think the same about this remix, it’s marvelous. On the A side there’s Shy FX’s version that he put a deep hit-and-run bass well onto a slow speed amen (nearly the original speed)
--Loefah’s Swamp81 released musically nerd Kevin Martin aka The Bug’s new songs as the fourth one in their series, all-of-this-are-really-good. I never saw Kevin Martin produced a mediocre song, he released tens of records each includes anthems (both LPs,EPs,7”,12”,etc.).If Kevin Martin releases a record you can buy it in a second without a thought, they are always great. On the A side there is Run which he did with Flow Dan. When I saw this song on Flow Dan’s album Original Dan, I started to search for a vinyl pres, and then Loefah gave it to us with two more songs, one is Out of Control, same riddim with vocals from Kiki Hitomi, the other is the dub version of Out of Control. Nerds are cool.
--MRK1 is one of my favorite producers. I put two of his records recently released into this report. Now, first one is The Electrician/Move Your Soul released by Contagious Records. On The Electrician he used some beat tricks, that we used o hear from MRK1, combined with a bass line created by the mighty deep sub bass, and on the top, there are some metallic synths scattered all over, also the sample reminds me of the one he used for Electronik (CON017).Move Your Soul is on the same path as the first song but with the addition of vocal sample it becomes more soulful and a true sound system killer.
Second record is released by Studio Rockers, Going Down. The beat reminded me of his works for Virus Syndicate, including a great wobbly bass. The production is top class again. On the flip, there is Bleep Plan. Now, we have something different here, it is not usual MRK1 sound, with the hard bass it is more sounded like Distance’s works or Kulture's Diesel or maybe Reso’s Onslaught, something like these.
--I was eagerly waiting for the release since the day I listened to the ‘Hard’ on Plastician’s show at Rinse.fm. Digital Soundboy first release the singles rather than an album, which means spending more money for vinyl freaks like me. You can ask, does this album meet your expectations? You bet. It’s better than I’ve ever thought. You can’t define a genre for this album, it seems like he made this songs in a way what he feels when he woke up in the morning. In my opinion this album will be remembered as one of the best of bass music, at least I remember this as that.
James Boyle remembers his jungle roots with Old sKool Ting and Foundation. These two are satisfying enough for me with the flow of amen under a bass that skates all over making ollies. But, these are not enough for Breakage, he continues his bass assault with Run’em Out, Roots Manuva features on that track, and Vial that he did with Burial. We did not hear anything from Burial for too long, in here he’s saying ‘I’m here and we did a great job with Breakage’ with this highly garage influenced dubstep.
Highly garage influenced Over and Justified are two of my favorites. Zarif did the vocals on Over, her elegant (zarif means elegant in Turkish) voice takes the song up up and away from the real world. I did not mention Speechless, If, Higher and Hard but do not think they are not as good as the other songs, they are all stunning.

=================================================
--LA’li 6blocc I dub serisinin dördüncüsünde gene hiphop ve dancehall remixleriyle selam çakmış bize.A yüzü Audio Two klasiği Top Billin ile açılan plak, Cypress Hill’in Kill A Man’ine yaptığı vasat remixle devam ediyor .Eric B and Rakim’in Follow The Leader remixi ise başarılı bass düzenlemesinin 80ler hiphopunun taktikleriyle şahane yoğrulmasıyla vücut bulup plağın en iyisi olmuş.B yüzünde son sırada ise Baby Cham’in Getto Storysine 6Bloc’un yaptığı yorum var.

--Blawan’ın bu ilk releasei, Hessle Audio’dan çıkacağını duyduğumda açıkcası klasik bi techy dubstep bekliyordum, Ramadanman Pangae stilinde olsun vasatta olsa yeterdi, amma velakin öyle değildir, 2 step üzerine döşenmiş yoğun sub bass baımı döndürmeye yetti, iyi kotarılmış düzenleme de cabası.İyi plak, bu ay alacaklarınız listesine ekleyin.

--Subscape’in gene Dub Police’ten çıkan ilk plağı Transaction’ı partilerde çalarken hep düşen havayı canlandıracak bi kurtarıcı gözüyle görmüşümdür, şimdi bi başka kurtarıcyı beğenimize sundu Subscape, sonuç: beğendim, yeni bir kurtarıcım daha var.Testere misalı dalgalanan bassıyla Hardcore Members heyecan gark ederken arka yüzdeki reggaeden nasibini almış bi dubstepcinin houseu olarak tarif edebileceğim midnight heyecanı azaltmadan sürdürüyor.

--Dubstep’in yükselen prodüktörlerinden Trolley Snatcha Sub Police’ten çıakrdığı bu ikinci releaseinin A yüzündeki Circle K ile basıyla saydırıp döven ve her beatte üstünüze yürüyen mahalle delikanlısı edasında, arka yüzdeki We rock The Forest’ta ise skank üstüne oturttuğu testere bassıyla reggae’ye selam çakmış, selamını alıyoruz.

--Loefah Swamp 81 sayfasında bi sonraki releasein Addison Groove mahlasını kullanan Headhunter olacağını söylediğinde merak başlamıştı zaten.Sonucun dubstep’e yedirilmiş ghetto house etkili bi plak olacağını bilsem heyecandan yerimde duramazdım herhalde, Allahtan bilmiyordum.808 perkusyonları durmaksızın akan bass ile çok iyi, tekrarlıyorum, çooook iyi. Geriye dönüp baktığımda senenin en iyi plakları arasına düşünmeden ekleyeceğim bunu.footcrap footcrap footcrap.

--Digital Mystikz'in yarısı olan Mala, Deep Medi Musik'i kurduğunda, tek amacı çevresindeki prodüktürlerin şarkılarını sadece ve sadece plağa basmaktı.4 senedir bu amaç doğrultusunda 26 plak basan şirket, sonunda plaktan kaydedilmis mp3lerle yetinmeye çalışan dinleyicilerini düşünüp, bir ne oldu ne bitti ne yaptık serisi çıkarmaya karar verdi.Alacaksınız bunu tekrar söylememe gerek yok.

--Herkese laf edebilirim, bu da alıştı saw tooth bas kullanmaya, hep aynı hep aynı baydı artık, vs. ama mevzubahis The Others olunca bu tarz şeyler düşünmüyorum pek.Aynı bassı aynı beati bile kullansalar şarkının bir yerinde beni vuracak çok iyi olmuş diyecek birşeyler oluyor mutlaka. Bu EPde aynı kafa, ilk plakta yeralan Gravity ve Puppetwalk bildik The Others floorbasher soundu olarak dönerken, ikinci plakta işte beni şaşırtan ve vuranlar var, uzun süredir çıkmasını beklediğim Karma dubstepin ilk yıllarındaki reggaewise 2 stepler gibi tınılıyor ufak dub techno etkisini de belirtmeden geçmek olmaz.Plağın aka yüzündeki Dot 2 Dot da çıkmasını uzun süredir beklediklerimden.Bu da sert basslinelı bi al kafanı duvara vur şarkısı.

--No Hats No Hoods Badness’ın Skepta ve Lil Nasty ile beraber kotardığı Nightmare şarkısın 3 remixinin yer aldığı plağı sundu beğenimize.Şimdi ilk remix HENCH tayfasından Mensah’ın, açıkcası bu remixi orjinalinden daha çok sevdim, üstünüze külçe külçe oturacak bass ve synthleriyle başarılı bi dubstep fix.Bassboy’un şarkıyı upbeat hale sokan bassline fixi de iyi işte geçelim onu.Son şarkı metalik synthleriyle şarkıyı bambaşka bir hale sokan ve zaten hali hazırda ki karanlık havayı iyice soğutan Cotti ve Coki’nin remixi.İyi plak bu, alınmalı.

--2009’dan beridir Bassnectar’ın bu çıkardığı ilk vinyl releasine Basshead music zaten doğru tanımı yapmış benim bir şey eklememe gerek yok.” Side A is an 808-driven bassline workout; side AA is a dancefloor stomper with vocals by underground hiphop star Zumbi (Zion I). You've got to hear this release! It sounds like DnB and Dubstep made love and produced a Hip Hop baby.”

--Biraz derinlere dalmışsınız ama az sonra yüzeye çıkacaksınız, denizin sessizliği ve yoğunluğu kaplamış her yanınızı, az kaldı ferahlığa. Yoğun bass ve syntleriyle Actress’in paint, straw &bubbles’ının bana hissettirdikleri bunlar işte.Zomby’nin remixi ise Actress’in synthlerinin wonkinessini arttırarak yüzeyde dalgalarla kucaklaşıldığı anın müthiş bi tasviri gibi olmuş.Maze ise soğuk ve karanlık havasıyla Actress’in industrila selam çaktığı şarkı olmuş.Synthleri de erken elektronik müziği hatırlatmıyor değil.Çok iyi plak.

--Mungo’s Hi-Fi’a yaptığı vokallerden sesine aşina olduğumuz ve sevdiğimiz Brother Culture, Jellybass’a No Love şarkısında omuz vermiş.Plağın A yüzündeki original mix ve Caper Remix ile dubstepe fazlasıyla meyleden dub/reggaeler olarak karşımıza çıkarken ( kabul etmek gerekir ki CAper Remixi dub/reggae ezgili bi dubstep aslında) B yüzündeki Jazzsteppa remixinde adamlar beati ve bassi iyice ön plana alıp bildiğimiz sert ve karanlık Jazzsteppa soundunda yorumlamışlar şarkıyı, DJ Love ise şarkıyı On-u Sound ayarında bir hale getirmeyi tercih etmiş ki bence hiçte fena olmamış.

--Digital Soundboy asla kötü bir şey çıkarmaz (en azından şimdiye kadar beni üzecek bir release dinlemedim adamlardan).1xtra’da dinlediğimden beridir heyecanla çıkmasını bekliyordum bu plağın.Orada ilk olarak Skream’in yaptığı remixi dinlemiştim daha evvel gene Digital Soundboy’dan çıkan Burning Up ile 145-150 bpm civarlarında seyreden junglesqueler üretmeye başlayan Skream Donaeo’nun Riot Music’ine de aynı muameleyi uygun görmüş.İlk dinlediğimden beridir fikrim değişmedi, oldukça başarılı bir remix bu.Ön yüzde ise Shy Fx’in neredeyse orijinal hızında seyreden amen üzerine yerleştirdiği dipten gelen ve vurup kaçan baslı remixi var.Alınmalı.

--Loefah’ın Swamp81 şirketi bir tanesi bile boş olmayan releaseler serisinin dördüncüsünde musically nerd Kevin Martin aka The Bug’a yer vermiş.Kevin Martin’in şimdiye çıkardığı işlerden eh idare eder dediğim olmadı hiç, her biri amiyane tabirle marşlar içeren onlarca plak bir tanesi mi boş olmaz be amcooli. Yok işte bu adam çıkarıyorsa gözün kapalı alacaksın.Plak Flow Dan’ın Original Dan albümünde yer alan Run ile açılıyor.Flow dan albümünü çıkardığında plak formatı olmadığını görünce üzülmüştüm, nasıl olur da bunun plak baskısını bulurum diye düşünürken benim gibi sefilleri düşünün Loefah bastı plağı üstüne aynı riddim üzerine Kiki Hitomi’nin vokal yaptığı Out Of Control’ü ve bunun müthiş dub versiyonunu da ekledi.Ben istedim bir tane Swamp81 verdi 3 tane.

--Second record is released by Studio Rockers, Going Down. The beat reminded me of his Works for Virus Syndicate, including a great wobbly bass. The production is top class again. On the flip, there is Bleep Plan. Now, we have something different here, it is not usual MRK1 sound, with the hard bass it is more sounded like Distance’s Works or Kulture Diesel or maybe Reso’s Onslaught, something like these.
Kendisi favori prodüktörlerimden olduğu için yazımıza iki releasiyle katılıyor bay MRK1.Ilki Contagioustan çıkan The Electrician/Move Your Soul.

Speechless, If, Higher, Hard pek bahsetmedim diye kötü mü sandınız? Saçmalamayın, hepsi müthiş şarkılar. Hee Hard uzun süredir set hazırlarken gözü kapalı döndürdüğüm şarkılardan.

Reih dich ein, in die Arbeitereinheitsfront,
Weil du auch ein Arbeiter bist.

London Pirate Radio

"Pirate radio is everywhere in London, born in the 60’s from rusting anti-aircraft towers in the mouth of the Thames. Today’s broadcasts are hidden in plain sight, transmitting from secret tower block studios via homemade rooftop antennas."

Vice and Palladium filmed a great documentary about the London's pirate radios for their documentary series, Exploration. London Pirate Radio is the sixth in these series and it features many pirate radioheads like Logan Sama, Matt Mason (author of the book The Pirate's Dilemma) and 60's original pirate Tony Pine.

Logan Sama compiled a grime mixtape for this documentary, you can download it from here.
